Victorian Oops! (pic heavy)

FOTD: May 11, 2011

So this week I received my prize from the completely lovely Amanda of Glitters and Bubbles' Aromaleigh "Oops" Giveaway!  I was so very excited to have been lucky enough to win this incredible stash of unique shades--and so very bummed that on the day I plucked them up from my mailbox my eyes were on fire from the nasty-kine hay fever most everyone suffers from around here >.<

Still, the package was a definite lift to my spirits, as Amanda clearly had put a bit of TLC into presenting it:

Completely adorable!  Mahalo, Amanda S.!!

I have to say the goodies inside were even prettier to behold in person than in photos (but I'm finding that's frequently the case with good-quality loose eyeshadows).

As I mentioned before, my eyes were in no state to apply any kind of makeup, being itchy and red and watery from the allergies, so I couldn't play with them properly right away.  My hands were not affected, however, so I was able to swatch them!

Sometimes, it drives me crazy that the gorgeousness that I see in RL does not capture easily (or even well) on camera.  I still have to work on my photography skills o.O  However, I was impressed at the complexity of these shadows--particularly by the fact that the sparkliness and beautiful color did not disappear when "rubbed down," a much less common characteristic of loose eyeshadows in my experience:

About a day or so after receiving these lovelies, my eyes quit streaming long enough for me to create a pretty evening look.  I picked out a couple of the Oops shades to play with (#4 & #6) that I thought would go well together and added in some Fyrinnae and Antionette's Revolution Cosmetics (ARC) shades for contour and highlighting.

In keeping with the "oops" theme, I completely forgot that Fyrinnae shades have no sifter (even though I store them lid up as a reminder) and opened my pot of Victorian Vamp upside down--spilling a good portion of it in the process!  `Auwe!!  Fortunately I was able to recover the majority of this incredibly gorgeous shadow...

On my face I'm wearing a sheer face primer I decided to try...and then decided I didn't like, mostly because the SPF in it looked chalky in RL and paled me out quite a bit on camera :p  Over the primer I applied Meow Cosmetics' Equilibrium Balancing Powder and their Pampered Puss foundation (a mix of samples in Fierce Manx and Naughty Siamese, as I was still trying to settle on a good match.  This turned out to be both too pale and too pink...sigh...).  With the magic of Picnik, though, it doesn't look too bad.

On to the eyes:
random primer
Aromaleigh Oops #6 patted on the lids
Aromaleigh Oops #4 topped with Fyrinnae Moon child on the inner corners and inner portion of the lower lid
Fyrinnae Victorian Vamp applied to the crease and outer corners and blended very gently so as not to make the gorgeous red sparkle disappear ;)  I also foiled this shade to line the upper lash line, then patted some more of it across the lower lid and blended it into the brows for more of an "auburn" look.  I'm pretty sure I love this shade and I'd like to try it on the lips.
ARC Ladies in Waiting blended onto the brow bone
ARC Powdered Wigs applied just under the brow for added contrast

I then blended Meow's Egyptian Treasures blush in Cleopatra onto my cheeks and applied MAC Dark Side (gorgeous!) to my lips.

What do you think?  Did I make good use of this beautiful gift from Amanda?  Hope I did her proud ;)

MKA,

Lizzy
